Summer Cocktails + Blossom uCap
Summertime is upon us, and I’ve got a recipe to cure your summertime sadness, and also a great way to use the Blossom Sipping Cap! I was going to make a mojito recipe, but apparently there’s a lime shortage going on. I’ve read about it but I had no clue, until I went to the store and discovered that teeny, dried out limes were a dollar each. No thank you! So I substituted blood orange instead, (and bought one lime anyways.)
I did notice though that raspberries were on sale! So I came up with this raspberry simple syrup recipe that is perfect for using up older raspberries and new ones alike.
For the syrup you’ll need equal parts water and sugar, I used 2 cups of each. I also used 6 oz. of raspberries for this batch, and a large slice of orange.
Cook on medium heat for about 15 minutes, ensuring that the sugar is melted. I also used a potato masher to mash the raspberries like so.
Next you can either strain the mixture (I did,) or pour into a glass jar to cool.
For the cocktail, you’ll want rum, club soda, ice and a lime, or lime juice.
- Add 5 TBSP of syrup to each jar
- Add a squirt of lime juice
- Add 1-2 oz of rum
- Fill he remaining space until the jar is 3/4 full with club soda
- add ice
And there you have it, a beautiful, delicious, easy cocktail perfect for summer. The leftover syrup can literally go on anything. Ice cream, coffee, pancakes, you name it, you can pour syrup all over it. I also put a storage cap over the syrup so it’ll stay nice and fresh.
Don’t forget about presentation though! I put a sipping uCap on each jar and put them in a bowl with ice. This is a perfect way to make drinks ahead of time, and stick them somewhere where guests can take them! It’s perfect for a barbecue or picnic. Another added benefit of the uCap is it’s watertight seal, which will prevent tipsy guests from making a mess. The uCap collection will be available in early July!
Until next time,
Sean
